About

Blitzkrieg Checked: The Battle of Gembloux: May 14-15, 1940, is an introductory level game of the battle between the French Armed forces and Germany’s Wehrmacht on May 14th and 15th, 1940. The Germans launched Operation Yellow, the invasion of France and the Low Countries, on May 10, 1940. The German vanguard of General Hoepner's XVI Coprs ran head-on into the defending French First Army led by General Rene Prioux at the "Gembloux Gap". The Germans hoped to seize the crucial open ground between the Dyle and Meuse Rivers, unhinging the Allied line. The Germans also hoped to tie-up Allied forces here, so that they could not be used to oppose the main German offensive effort coming through the Adrennes further south. The resulting conflict in May was the largest tank battle fought to the point in the war.
