📖 About This Game

As Odin's chosen ones, it is your task to search through the nine mythological worlds in search of omens that the time of Ragnarok has come. By following the Völva's prophecies and overcoming the challenges you encounter, you will be able to find treasures, equipment and companions who can help you each on your journey. The player who first meets Odin and brings him three of the Völva's omens will have their name written in eternity... and win the game! The board game – developed by the National Museum – is based on our beautiful and spectacular special exhibition “The Völva's Omen”, which can be experienced until 2027. The game has been developed in both Danish and English versions, so you get both in the same game setup (game board, rules, cards, etc.). The Völva was the seer of the past and future, a key figure in Viking society. A “vølve” means a staff bearer, and the title reveals that the staff was her faithful companion. But it was her ability to “seje”, a form of magic that could involve an out-of-body trance, that really made her unique. Who is the game aimed at and how long does it take to play? The game is aimed at adults and children over the age of 8 and takes between 40 and 80 minutes to play. What do you get when you buy “Vølvens varsler”? You get a game where every detail has been carefully considered. A large, attractive game board that resembles a jigsaw puzzle, consisting of nine small mythological world maps that, when placed together on the table, form the beautiful tree of life “Yggdrasil” from Norse mythology. You get the rules of the game in both Danish and English in one booklet, where everything is thoroughly explained and illustrated. In the booklet, you can also see and read about selected items from the National Museum, which are included in both the exhibition and the game. In addition, you will receive various beautifully illustrated playing cards (40 völva cards in Danish, 40 völva cards in English, 30 rune cards and 5 god cards), 20 Viking coins, and 5 game pieces based on a 3D scan of an object from the National Museum. There are also 5 dice and a so-called starting piece. The game pieces, coins, dice and starting piece come in a nice little cotton bag, so all the small parts are kept together. —description from the publisher (translated)
