📖 About This Game
The Black Rider is a story-driven journey set on a fixed map with pre-printed terrain. It introduces secret objectives, asymmetric characters, and event-driven gameplay, while a mysterious rider roams the land—displacing meeples and disrupting scoring wherever he passes.
What’s New in This Module?
Fixed Map Gameplay: Instead of building the landscape tile by tile, players place tiles only on predetermined open spaces on a beautifully illustrated map of medieval France. Space is limited—every move matters.
Asymmetric Characters with Secret Goals: Each player assumes the role of a unique character, such as Mette the Farmer-Queen or Ser Dorian the Merchant. Every character has a backstory and a hidden personal goal that rewards points if completed by game’s end.
Royal Decrees: Some tiles feature an envelope icon. When placed, the player draws a Royal Decree—a powerful event card that can dramatically change the game, from tax breaks to plagues and sudden scoring shifts.
The Black Rider Mechanic: At the start of each turn, the active player rolls a die to move the Black Rider across the board. Any meeples he passes are returned to their owners’ hands. At game’s end, areas haunted by the Rider are blocked from scoring. This adds constant tension and forces players to adapt strategically.
Why Is This a Unique Tile-Laying Experience?
The Black Rider blends classic tile placement and area control with narrative depth and dynamic threats. It adds roleplaying elements without slowing gameplay, encouraging both strategic planning and immersive storytelling.
Whether you’re a seasoned tile-based game fan or a narrative gamer seeking more depth in your board game nights, The Black Rider offers a fresh, suspenseful twist that’s easy to learn and hard to forget.
