📖 About This Game

Terra do Sol is a worker placement and area control board game set in the historical period of the Cangaço, a socio-political movement marked by banditry and resistance in the Brazilian Northeast during the early 20th century. Players take on the role of leaders of cangaceiro bands, each with asymmetric powers, trying to survive the harsh drylands, outmaneuver rivals, and build fame in the hinterlands while being hunted by government forces. The game unfolds over a series of rounds where players send out their cabras (band members) to take actions, such as attacking towns, trading at the market and recruiting new cangaceiros. Players must carefully manage resources like water and ammunition, endure seasonal droughts, and build relationships with local coiteiros (sympathizers) to gain advantages. Each leader earns points in unique ways and must balance aggression with survival. There's no direct combact in the game, players At the end of the game, the player with the most fame points is crowned the legendary leader of the Cangaço. There's no direct combat between players. All confrontations happen through strategic positioning, area denial, and competition for shared objectives. The game is played over a fixed number of rounds, each consisting of three phases: Allocation Phase: Players take turns placing their cabras (meeples) to select actions for the round, such as attacking localities, visiting the market, getting resources or recruiting. Action Phase: In initiative order, players resolve their actions. End of Round: Players deal with seasonal effects (like droughts), refill the board, and prepare for the next round. Throughout the game, players gain fame points by conquering cities, fulfilling orders, recruiting cangaceiros, progressing on the coiteiro track, and using their leader’s unique scoring condition. The player with the most fame at the end of the final round wins the game. —description from the publisher
