Shashki Poddavki

Shashki Poddavki (give-away Shashki) is a two-player abstract strategy game from Russia. It is played on the dark squares of an 8x8 Checkers board. The usual rules of Checkers, or rather, Shashki apply -- players may advance their pieces by moving them diagonally to an adjacent black square, and the opponent's pieces may be jumped and captured. However, the game goal is inverted: the player who cannot move anymore first wins. Shashki Poddavki is a game of skill, yet there is little skill transfer between Shashki and Shashki Poddavki.
