In Payback, cunning is your currency and survival is your only strategy. Each player builds their own stage of play, using card combinations not only to rid their hand but to strike at opponents to the left and right. As players rush to go out first or outlast the chaos, every move could provoke retaliation, or open the door to fortune. Payback is a climbing and shedding game where each player plays combinations to their own personal board instead of a shared central pile. There are only two types of valid combinations, simplifying choices while sharpening strategic tension. Every play can affect adjacent opponents via "paybacks," which force them into tough decisions or directly attack their hand. The game rewards those who either go out first or survive longest without being eliminated, striking a balance between aggression and endurance.
