Take on the role of a notorious pirate and go on a treasure hunt. The aim of the game is to grab and hoard as many treasures as possible. But watch out! You are in danger! Get your treasures to safety before you end up empty-handed. You can play Kartano with two or up to six players. To start the game, simply shuffle all the cards and place them in the middle of the table. Each player starts with no cards in their hand. Each turn consists of an action and a card draw. The action is always optional, while drawing a card is mandatory. You start the game by taking the top card from the deck, visible only to you, and placing it in your hand. Once you have drawn the card, it is the next pirate's turn. If you have collected a few cards, you can begin to stockpile your treasures. You need a certain number of treasure cards before you can start hoarding them. The fun part is that you can deceive other players with treasure cards that have no value. During the game, you can swap hoarded decks with other players. It is always wise to remember which deck had zero value. You can also draw certain function cards during the game. These can help you collect more treasure, steal treasure from others or, in the worst case, lose all the treasure in your hand. There are three 'Fiasco' cards that bring the game to an end. When the last Fiasco card is drawn, the game is over and you can start counting your hoarded treasures. Do you still have unhoarded treasures in your hand? Well, they do not count towards your score. So hurry up and hoard your treasures quick before you lose them again within the next round. The player with the most treasure points wins the round. A standard Kartano game consists of seven rounds.
