📖 About This Game
Hyperdrive Odyssey is a space adventure game, mixing (literal) engine-building, trading, combat and exploration. Set in the “wild-west” of space you are guided by a choose-your-own-adventure style narrative through branching campaign missions to reach a dramatic conclusion!
This is a solo campaign-style space adventure using a few sheets and a handful of dice and tokens, and an adventure booklet/pdf.
Overview
In Hyperdrive Odyssey you will complete a series of missions, each with a different objective. Throughout the missions you will be travelling between planets and space stations: trading, upgrading your ship and fighting space pirates!
To do this you will need to manage Power (produced in the Hyperdrive) which is used to activate the ship systems (weapons, shields and engines,) and mine for natural resources.
The eponymous game module is the Hyperdrive engine: a circuit powered by ‘quantum energy’ dice. The dice move around the track, and each lap they complete the more energy they gain, and the faster they go. You can manipulate the dice to draw power from the engine to the other main systems on the ship.
As your engine spins up over the course of the game you have to carefully balance the actions you need to take each turn, and the amount of energy you need to hold back, to feed back into your engine.
The more you want to do on your turn, the higher the energy cost!
Over the course of a play-through there are branching paths to explore, and each of the missions has a different objective, from trading, exploring, fighting, fixing your ship and even a mystery to solve as you hunt around the galaxy for clues.
In addition to the solo missions are a series of multiplayer scenarios, ranging from a competitive economic sandbox to cooperative tower defense.
