📖 About This Game
HISPANOAMERICA: A Story of Civilization, Discovery and Christianity is a game for 1 to 4 players and between 90 and 180 minutes in length that takes place during the more than three centuries in which America was part of the Spanish Crown and Spain dominated the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. From the end of the fifteenth century and the arrival on the island of Guanahaní in the Antilles of Christopher Columbus in 1492, until the end of the eighteenth century, the game shows the main historic milestones that occurred in the three centuries of history through a main mechanic of Action card game selection and exploration. It attempts to show in a condensed way the civilizing action of Spain in the New World: discovery, exploration, conquest, liberation, alliances with indigenous peoples, miscegenation, founding of cities, education, trade, exchange, evangelization, laws and governance, seeking to reproduce the concept of Spain and its culture in the overseas provinces.
In Hispanoamerica, players compete to explore and discover the New World, as well as to participate in the discoveries, evangelization, and cultural development of the Americas. The game is divided into 4 Eras in which players take turns performing their actions. ERA I runs between 1492 and 1520, ERA II between 1521 and 1550, Era III between 1551 and 1600, and ERA IV, between 1600 and the end of the eighteenth century (1800).
Each player will have 5 action cards that will be displayed on their personal board in positions between 1 and 5, which will mark the force (F) with which the action is performed. On each player's turn, one of the 5 action cards available on their personal board will be selected, with different strength depending on the position of the card. After the selected action has been carried out, the played card will move to position 1 by moving all the other cards to the right, and the turn will pass to the next player. Players will play successively until the end of the game occurs. Certain actions will cause the end of a round and the advancement of the eras.
As game develops, players will advance in 3 different tracks in the main board to show the civilization advance in the 3 categories of the game: Discovery, Culture and Evangelization, as they found cities, play historic milestone cards or construct relevant buildings.
After the end of Era IV or when players reach a certain level of discovery, cultural development, and evangelization, the end of the game is triggered. The player who causes the end of the game receives the card “Isabel La Católica” that will grant him/her 5 VPs, and the rest of the players can perform one last action.
