Each bowler is rated based on his or her performance in a particular season. Today's top bowlers like Jason Belmonte will reach match play more often and win more tournaments than lesser bowlers. Bowlers are rated for strike%, one-pin conversion%, spare conversion%, and performance in qualifying play and match play. Each tournament is rated for scoring difficulty. Qualifying rounds are conducted using a quick-play format. Match play is conducted using a roll-by-roll format. This enables tournaments to be played swiftly. The ratings of bowlers included in the all-time great bowler's sets are normalized to produce averages of today's bowlers. The ratings of bowlers included in the past season sets will produce the averages of those eras.
