📖 About This Game
Dr. Frankenstein has created many monsters throughout the years. However, there were always three that stood out the most. These three were so fascinated with the concept of creation that they wanted to create something themselves!
So, after years of contemplating, they decided to conduct the ultimate experiment...create a Compendiumsaurus!
To create such a beast would require each monster to perform multiple, smaller experiments.
Of course, only the best results from each smaller experiment should be used towards the ultimate experiment. Thus, the three monsters turn this creation process into a competition. The monster who has the best results across the most experiments will get to name the Compendiumsaurus!
Frankenmonster's Compendium is an compendium trick taking game for experienced compendium players.
If you are unfamiliar with compendiums, please check out my other game, Stepping Stones, for a beginner level compendium!Players will take on the role of one of Frankenstein's monsters that is curious with the concept of creation. What creation you might ask? Well, the creation of contracts for your compendium game, of course!
In all other compendium games, your exact contracts are known before you even open the box. However, in Frankenmonster's Compendium, players will be mixing and matching different rules to create a unique set of contracts for their game. This means each game can play out differently based on the combination of contracts created.
An overview of the game in slightly more detail:Contract Building Phase:
Starting with the forehand and going clockwise, each player will build one contract. There are 3 decks labeled A, B, and C (A = Trick Play, B = Contract Objective C = Trump/Card Ranking).
When building a contract, there will be two cards from each deck face up. Players must select one card from each deck. The card not selected is discarded. Then, two more cards from each deck are revealed and the next player builds a contract.
After each player has created one contract, a fourth contract will be collaboratively built by all players.
Dealing Phase (deck = 36 cards, 1-9 in 4 suits):
Forehand shuffles the deck and deals 12 cards to each player.
Bidding Phase (starts with forehand):
Bid on a contract you have not completed yet or pass
If all players pass, the forehand is “put in the lab” and must bid on a contract. However, before bidding on a contract, they must discard one piece from a fully unplayed contract and refill it from the matching deck.
Trick Phase (starts with declarer):
The rules for trick play (must follow, must/may beat, must/may trump, etc.) will be based on the contract itself
Winner of trick leads next trick until all tricks are played
Scoring Phase (only declarer scores):
Declarer records number of tricks won, card points won, etc. based on the contract objective.
Repeat phases until all contracts are completed.
