📖 About This Game

Cornerlang is a highly political and significantly historical Australian game produced during the 1930's depression years. The game pits the Premier of New South Wales "Jack Lang" against the "New Guard"; Australia's most successful right-wing, fascist paramilitary organisation. The New Guard became infamous in the 1930's for street violence on communism, trade unions, and the left-leaning policies of Lang. It promoted loyalty to the British Empire and conservative values. The most dramatic protest was when member Captain Francis de Groot, mounted on horseback, slashed the ribbon with his sword at the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. In Art Deco style the gameboard beautifully displays the new Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are 29 spaces for Lang or the New Guard to move on the bridge. Lang has 3 men (red counters), while the New Guard have 20 men (blue counters). Players place the men in turn on the spaces. Lang's men can jump and capture men of the New Guard. As men from the New Guard are placed on the Bridge they try and close in and corner Lang. The game is concluded if the New Guard can corner all of Lang's men or if Lang's men can capture 4 of the New Guard.
