Chir 1942

Chir 1942 is a simple introductory wargames published in Vae Victis "Hors Serie" nr 10 in August 2008. 33 DTP counters and a 11" x 17 " map at battalion level with some companies. It simulates the battle of December 1942 along the Chir river (so just after the Stalingrad encirclement) where the 11th Panzerdivision of the 48th Panzerkorps managed to destroy the 1st Soviet Tank Corps during the battles near Sovkhoze 79. The book of von Mellenthin "Panzer Battles" describes the story very well. The 11th Panzerdivision destroyed 800 Soviet tanks and mauled several other tank and mechanized corps during all these battles despite a tank strength of only 56 tanks.
